So, why pears?

I’ve reached my 10th blog post! A little later than I would have liked but life gets in the way sometimes. Ideally, I would like to post twice a week so that will be the next goal.

In my first post, I wrote that I would share how I came up with the name of this blog, “Why Pears.” Most of my close friends already know, but for those who don’t, I had an adviser at Simmons College, Andy Porter, dear to my heart, who I discovered eats pears on a semi-regular basis. He’d come in with his wanna-be apple wrapped in tinfoil and would eat it during our Senior Seminar class and I just could not wrap my head around it. I asked him, “Who eats pears? Why pears?” And he would laugh, shake his head, and take a bite of that godforsaken fruit.

The question “Why Pears” became the title of the blog to address those peripheral items, ideas, emotions and stories that don’t always receive the attention they deserve. I used to be a cashier for Market Basket and can count the number of times I rang up pears for customers on one hand for the entire 5 years I worked there. It was a solid 3 times. Thus, “Why Pears” was born.

I look forward to continuing this journey and finding new ways to share my work with you. Thanks for reading!
